One side effect of TRT that many men are wary about is an elevation of oestrogen. Oestrogen is a female sex hormone that has a role to play in the male body, but its overproduction can negate any benefits of TRT and can even cause other problems.
Rest assured, this is a factor that is closely monitored whilst you are on TRT. However, you should let us know if you have any side effects or symptoms from the use of the medication.
As mentioned, concerning the oestrogen levels just look out for certain symptoms:
- Gynaecomastia (growing breast tissue/man boobs)
- Being overly emotional (e.g. crying at films or adverts that you wouldn’t usually get emotional about)
- Body fat gain in certain areas (around the stomach, hips and buttocks)
- Low mood
- Low energy
- Reduced sex drive
What we tend to find is at the start of treatment, people will start to see benefits and then if Oestrogen does increase, the side effects creep in.
